Make Your Conference Attendance Sustainable

At Breast Cancer Trials (BCT), our number one focus is saving lives from breast cancer by improving treatments and prevention strategies through clinical trials research. However, we also recognise that every organisation can do its part to operate efficiently and sustainably.

We are pleased to be certified as a carbon-neutral organisation and have been working to reduce our carbon emissions by measuring our impact, reducing our waste and carbon footprint, offsetting our emissions, switching to a renewable energy source, implementing an ethical investment strategy, and ensuring supply chains have sustainable practices in place. We also take measures to ensure our annual conference is following environmentally sustainable practices through carbon offsetting our flights, reusing lanyards, and reducing paper waste through our conference app, which is used by our delegates and sponsors.

BCT aims to work with organisations that encourage sustainability. The Hotel Grand Chancellor (HGC), Hobart, recognises their responsibility to the environment and ensures events held with them are carried out in the most sustainable way possible. For more information about their sustainability practices, you can read the HGC Environmental Policies Document or the HGC Sustainability Management Plan. We also need each and every delegate to support our goals, and we encourage you to follow our sustainability tips below:

  • Use public transport during your stay in Hobart. Hobart is a relatively compact city, so you may find it easier to explore the Tasmanian capital’s attractions without a car. To use the public bus network in Hobart, you can purchase a Metro Greencard or buy single tickets on board. Greencards are available from Greencard agents as well as the Metro Shop on Elizabeth Street in Hobart.
  • Bring your own reusable water bottle to the venue to fill up throughout the day, and bring your own coffee keep cup to use at one of our coffee carts.
  • Make sure to recycle onsite – there will be marked recycling bins around the venue so make sure to bin unavoidable waste the correct way.
  • We will print your name tag, and it will be ready for collection at the registration desk. Please return your lanyard at the end of the conference so we are able to reuse them for future conferences.
  • Spread the word and motivate others to contribute to a successful sustainable congress – together we can make this the most sustainable Breast Cancer Trials Annual Scientific Meeting so far!

At Breast Cancer Trials we embrace the opportunity to be innovative and re-imagine our business framework, so that we can make a positive impact on the environment around us.
