Metro Tasmania operates an extensive network of buses, offering reliable service throughout the city and its surrounding areas. The bus routes cover key attractions, making it easy for visitors to navigate Hobart’s sights without the need for a car.

Hobart Airport

Flights and transfers to and from Hobart, Tasmania are the responsibility of delegates. Hobart International Airport is the primary airport for flights to and from Hobart, which is approximately 17km from the CBD. Residents of Australia will not require a passport to travel to Hobart.

For all non-Australian residents traveling to Hobart, you will require a passport and valid visa. Please contact your travel agent or your nearest Embassy to check what passport and visa requirements are relevant to you.

Public Transport

To use the public bus network in Hobart, you can purchase a Metro Greencard or buy single tickets on board. Greencards are available from Greencard agents as well as the Metro Shop on Elizabeth Street in Hobart. 

There are limited ferry services in Hobart. Derwent Ferries operates a service between Hobart’s Brooke Street Pier and Bellerive Pier at the historic harbourfront suburb of Bellerive. 

The Red Decker hop-on, hop-off bus is another great way to see Hobart’s city attractions. You can purchase a 24-hour or a 48-hour City Loop ticket, each allowing you to hop on and off at 20 stops.

COVID-19

All international travelers entering Hobart will need to complete and sign an Incoming Passenger Card, which includes declarations you will need to make about your health and character.

There are currently no entry requirements in place for travelers to Tasmania, however, you can keep up-to-date with the latest official health and travel advice on the Tasmanian Government’s COVID-19 website.

Taxi Services

Hobart is served by several taxi companies, including Hobart Taxi Cabs and 13cabs.

You can hail a taxi on the street or at taxi ranks in the city centre, or you can also book a taxi by phoning individual companies, or by downloading an app from 13cabs or GoCatch.

Taking an airport taxi will take approximately 16 minutes to reach the Hotel Grand Chancellor in the city CBD.

Alternatively, you can book a reliable ride in minutes through the Uber app. Download the Uber app or visit their website
